Paulita M. LaPlante - President and a Director of Väsamed since September 1998 and Chief Executive Officer since December 1998. From June 1994 to September 1998, Ms. LaPlante served as Väsamed’s Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Business Development and was Director of Marketing and Business Development from April 1992 to June 1994. She also served as Väsamed’s interim Vice President of Research and Development from January 1994 to September 1994. Ms. LaPlante served on the board of VidaMed, Inc. from November 1999 to August 2002. Ms. LaPlante currently serves on the board of Qualigen, Inc.

Richard B. Egen - a Director of Väsamed since June 1997. Mr. Egen most recently served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aksys, Ltd. From January 1997 to July 2001; he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NephRx Corporation, an early-stage biotechnology company. From January 1996 to December 1996, he served as a consultant to Baxter International, Inc. (“Baxter”) and Nestlé, S.A. (“Nestlé”) for clinical nutrition and startup medical companies. From January 1989 to December 1995, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Clintec International, Inc. (a joint venture between Baxter and Nestlé that develops, manufactures, markets and distributes clinical nutrition solutions and formulations). Prior to joining Clintec International, Inc., Mr. Egen served as Senior Vice President at Baxter, and as a member of Baxter’s Senior Management Committee.

Charles D. Snead, Jr. - a Director of Väsamed since June 2000. Mr. Snead is an attorney and has served in various legal, executive, and board of director positions in several New York and Nasdaq stock exchange listed companies over a period of 30 years. Mr. Snead has been self-employed as a consultant and attorney during the previous five years and clients included Circle F Ventures, LLC, and Hayden R. Fleming and their affiliates and related companies. From June 1996 to April 1999, Mr. Snead served as President, Chief Executive Officer, Director, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of FBR Capital Corporation during its transition from a fragrance manufacturer to a time and attendance systems company.

Dr. Andrew T. Jay - Board Member. As Head of the Medical Solutions Fund at Siemens Venture Capital since 2002, Dr. Jay has closed several investments in the medical technology and pharmaceutical arenas. Two notable IPO's in his portfolio are Animas, a maker of external insulin pumps, and Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals, a company developing imaging agents for cancer and cardiovascular applications. Dr. Jay previously was an Institutional Investor (ranked medical technology analyst leading) at Wachovia Securities, Alex. Brown and Deutsche Bank Securities covering imaging, orthopedics, cardiovascular, vision, diabetes, diagnostics and neurologic devices. He was instrumental in raising over $2 billion in equity capital for a multitude of companies, published over 10,000 pages of research and bringing over 20 medical technology companies public. He has a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern. He is involved with Sequenom and Cylex, and serves on the Board of Directors of U-Systems, MDdatacor, and Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Craig M. Walker - Board Member. Dr. Walker is the Founder, President, and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Institute of the South; Medical Director of the CIS Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program; Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine Tulane University School of Medicine; and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Dr. Walker has been Principal Investigator in many cardiovascular medical device clinical trials, and has made numerous presentations before the FDA, medical conferences and symposia.  Additionally, he has published over 100 articles, abstracts and books. He is the graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, American Board of Internal Medicine – Subspecialty of Cardiovascular Disease, American College of Cardiology, American College of Angiology, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and Diplomat in Interventional Cardiology.  Dr. Walker completed his cardiology training at Harvard University’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was a research fellow and clinical instructor in cardiology and medicine. Dr. Walker is intimately involved in advancing innovative technology to improve patients’ lives.  He is a Board of Director member for Cardiva, CV Therapeutics, IDev and Spectranetics.  He is a consultant to Boston Scientific, Cardiva, CV Therapeutics, ev3, FlowMedica, IDev, Possis and Spectranetics, serves on the speaker’s bureau for Abbott, AstraZeneca, Boston Scientific, Cardiva, Cordis, CV Therapeutics, FlowMedica, Possis, Spectranetics and Toshiba; and is on the medical/scientific advisory board for Cardiva, Edwards Lifesciences, FlowMedica, Philips, Spectranetics and The Medicine Company.
